Underwater Harvesting
Our journey begins beneath Lake Volta. Using sonar and mapping data, we identify standing trees from the original forest. Divers and barge crews deploy the SHARC Harvester, which maneuvers independently of boats and cuts trees with a telescoping arm. Removing these submerged trunks improves lake navigation and reduces accidents.
Log Retrieval & Sorting
Once a log is cut, airbags lift it to the surface. Each log is tagged for species, size and provenance. At our lakeside yard the timber is graded and sorted. We salvage a diverse range of species – Odum, Ebony, Mahogany and other tropical hardwoods – many of which are scarce in today’s forests.
Milling
Logs are sawn into slabs, boards or beams at our modern sawmill. Our equipment maximises yield and preserves the natural character of the wood. Waste wood is converted into charcoal, providing an alternative to illegal charcoal production and further reducing deforestation pressure.
Kiln Drying & Stabilisation
Submerged timber contains water within its cells. We carefully kiln‑dry each piece to stabilise it, ensuring minimal movement during fabrication and use. Kiln drying also brings out the wood’s unique colours and grain patterns.
Crafting & Distribution
We supply rough‑sawn lumber, kiln‑dried slabs and custom‑cut timber to architects, designers and artisans worldwide. Our timber is ideal for high‑end furniture, bespoke interiors, flooring, veneer and even musical instruments. For clients seeking finished products, KKTR partners with Ghanaian craftsmen to create luxury furniture and décor that celebrate the wood’s story.
